Future Plans

We're still keeping busy getting the company up and running (and learning HTML to build and maintain this website!) and really haven't had time to gaze too deeply into our crystal ball. But here's a brief look at what's in store for the immediate future at JAZART RECORDS.

Saxophonist Phil Deal and bassist Tim Foley are currently in the midst of recording tracks for a new release--as yet untitled. Phil is an extraordinary reed player, former student of Lee Konitz, graduate of the late 60's New York City loft-jazz scene, and disciple of the late, great, St. John Coltrane. He has been blowing pure and strong throughout the sessions and is backed by the solid, tone-driven bass lines of San Francisco blues and jazz scene veteran Tim Foley on upright acoustic bass. No release date as yet planned. Check back soon.

Phil and Tim are also currently involved in informal recording sessions with a new experimental orchestra, A Few Bad Apples, featuring Jerry Schmidt and his amazing 5 foot diameter Sabian gong. A devotee of Stockhausen, Jerry is a very creative and animated player and is backed by Phil Deal on reeds, percussion, and vocals; Tim Foley on acoustic bass; and Bernie Rauch on drums, vocals, and acoustic guitar. A Fall concert is being discussed as well as future recording dates and a possible CD release on the JZRT label. Stay tuned!

Our future plans for the remainder of 2004 include the marketing, and promotion of Leonard Garr'ssecond CD, about which we are very enthusiastic. We are hoping to attract distribution offers for retail record stores for our small but growing catalog (currently available through CD Baby)

We are expanding our own local distribution area to Sonoma county thanks to the tireless efforts of Marketing and Sales Director (and Leonard's biggest fan), Margaret Gaffney. Thank you, Margaret! And welcome to the Jazart Records staff.

And we are expanding our presence on our CD Baby internet retail website to include the addition to our catalog of Romantic Jazz Standards by Canadian pianist Maurice Boivin.

Plans to record the jazz group TRIOPOTAMUS in January, 2002, sadly did not happen, despite a highly successful debut concert @ Phil Deal Performance Gallery, SF, November 17, 2001. Nothing but accolades from the enthusiastic, capacity crowd, which included playwright John O'Keefe.

Check back in soon for more info. Thanks for your ongoing interest. . .
